The only way to know your Phe level is to get regular checks. You can't guess your own Phe level accurately. Only your actual Phe level gives you the information you need to make good decisions.1

When your Phe level is at goal at your checkup, that's an achievement! Make a point to do something nice for yourself each time you make your goal. You might buy a book, or take a class for fun. Be sure to share the good news with family and friends on the PKUniverse. Then, you may want to work with your doctor or dietitian to set an even lower goal for next time.

The only way to know for sure if your Phe level is high is with a blood test. But your brain will also give you clues. Chances are your Phe is creeping up if:1,3,4,5

When you feel this way, ask your doctor or dietitian if getting your Phe level down could help.
* Lower is better until you get Phe into the normal range of 1-2 mg/dL. Going lower than 1-2 mg/dL can be unhealthy. Talk with your doctor about the right target range for you.1,2
