heather, nim 19 with pku…im in my first year of college and i have not been teased once. friends think it’s interesting and not wierd. they want to help…they watch what they offer me and they know right from wrong…i think that one of the best things for a teen with pku to do is to inform their friends about their condition and the limitations that it includes! i did this right from the beginning and all my friends understand very well and are really supportive. some people don’t tell even their closest friends cuz they see it as a hassle, but honestly it doesnt take that much time and explaining…so in your sons case, i would encourage him to answer any questions that people might ask him as he grows up!….hope this helped!
