SSI is aid given to families depending on the size of the family and the income. Social Security pays money to children who have what they consider a disability, but when it comes to children of PKU it is a little harder to get I think because they don’t really know much about it. I applied for my daughter when she was 2 yrs old and I had to fight hard to get it. But if you do your child will automatically get medicaid which helps pay for the special food. Give it a try. Call your local office and tell them you want to apply. Worst they can do is turn you down. Doesn’t hurt to try. But be prepared you may have to fight for it. Hope this helps
