Well I just posted somewhere else about pku and my son's Asperger's.  My seven year old was diagnosed last year with Asperger's.  As far as pku he has always tested mild hyper so no special diet.  I feel like there is a connection because his main symptoms are depressive/rage meltdowns. It just makes sense to me that since phenylalanine eventually breaks down into seratonin, dopamine, etc, he would have problems with depression.  Also, on his intelligence tests, he either tested in the 99th percentile or the 1 percentile.  Could it be that untreated higher than average levels of phenylalanine could make him effectively retarded in certain areas?  I wish there was some expertise in this area, but so far I haven't been able to find any.  thanks for listening.
