I started a group on Facebook. Search for PKU Tools. Also for downloading the tool once it is done you will be able to get it from http://www.pkutools.com and once I have new updates to post I will put them there as well.
My skills and libraries for writing applications has come a long way so I think I of starting version 2 of the PKU Tool and implement things I thought I’d do but never did.
The question is… If I were to create a PKU Tool for a tablet device which one would it be? I am not going to do it for the iPad or anyother apple device because of $$$ and I am not sure about windows mobile devices because I’d have to charge everyone for it, but that doesn’t mean it has to be expensive. I was looking at the Motorola Xoom but that is $599 or $100 more than the iPad so that’s not too bad.
I also would plan to add support for importing the Food List into the new tool.
Ok, for now the Samsung (honeycomb) is not out but will be similar to the Motrola Xoom. I also purchased a HTC Inspire with uses the Andriod 2.1 OS. The 2.2 version of Android will be out on Feburary 25. So I guess the plan is to update the current PKU Tools so it works better and while I do that I will beable to see what to keep and what to throw out.
When I first started I wanted a PC version of the app to work with the moblie version, so now I will do that.

Very cool. I am interested. My son is 1 with pku and i struggle with this. I keep some info in my phone, some on paper and would love more condensed food info/ recipes etc. Thanks and God Bless
Thanks for the commet!
Got the web site up. I will be using this to deliver the tool for the PC once I have something useful.
this is a really good idea!! i wonder if similar metabolic disorders like pku have something like this?? u could make a lot of money off of this idea!!
Maybe. Unfortunately not everyone with a genetic disease is rich. I will probably give it away and allow people to make a donation. Most likely, I will try to make if free on my site and via a university that wants to give it to patients and then sell it on some other sites. I do this for fun anyway. Some how I'd like to make some money, but that is not the motivation for creating this application.
This sounds great! I have a daughter with mild PKU, she is almost 8 and is doing great with her levels. As she gets older it seems that she has more enzyme activity(never thought) She is currently allowed to have 10g of protein (meat) per day . Yeah!!!
that sounds like an absolutely great idea. it would probably especially help people like me who have trouble even staying on the diet.
One thing I have discovered is that the iPhone used objective-C which is usless for anyone who dose not use a mac or anyother apple product. Meaning there is no benifit for me to learn the syntax of objective-C since I don't need to know it to write programs for a AIX machine as we use as work or a winblows computer or even anyother flavor of UINIX. So I will not be creating the app for a mobile device until I can get my hands on something else like the palm pre. If anyone has any ideas as far as mobile devices you use and would like the app for let me know.
