Well I would advise being as strict as you can! Looking at your levels it seems like you are from the US & I really don’t understand the medical situation out there. But I would say, try to see a dietician or consultant and get on as stricter diet as you possibly can!

Levels CAN drop REALLY quickly if you are strict enough! If you would like to read my blogs, I am now 28weeks pregnant! I DID plan my pregnancy but if it helps 2 read them, do feel free! I decided I wanted 2 try for a baby in May, I started my diet in June, was told I could start trying in August and found out I was pregnant on 20th September, so it CAN happen quickly!

My dietician told me that as long as your levels are down by 10 weeks then the baby should be ok. However, I wouldn’t want to give you false hope as I know a girl on here who found out she was pregnant at 8weeks not on diet and her baby was born with things wrong with him. Although I would leave that to her 2 tell you about! If you have a scout on the forums you can probably find her story on there!

Also there is another couple on here that found out that they were pregnant, they found out early but their first scan looked all ok because AS SOON as she found out she got back onto the diet! She is also pregnant though, I dont even know for sure MY baby is DEFINATELY ok til she gets here as my levels did go up 4 a little while, but all my scans indicate that everything is ok!

I wish you all the best hun and hope you will keep us updated!

Thank you!! That does help. I Think I am only 2 or 3 weeks. I know I caught it early! But a couple of days before I found out I did drink my milk and eat only fruit. So maybe I’ll have a chance??? I’ll just have to wait and see

How many weeks along are you? I have heard the same as Becky, that if you are back on diet by week 10, your chances of having a healthy baby are pretty good. I understand your fears about blaming yourself if something was wrong with the baby — that’s why I’m somewhat scared to have kids after I get married (in 7 weeks). So I can relate to that. But, healthy, non PKU women can have babies with problems too. So, get back on diet and stick with it. I’m sure your baby will be ok.

This may sound a bit of an odd thing to say, but DO get some calories in where you can! because having not enough calories can make your levels high! I was only on 2g of protein and I wasn’t getting enough calories, my levels did go a bit higher when I was pregnant! If you can get some sweets that are free in protein or something that is very LOW in protein but HIGH in calories, do eat/drink it! Fizzy drinks and squashes (without aspartame obviously) are good 2 drink because they are normally free but fairly high in calories!

I hope you will keep us up to date with how you get on!
