OK THIS IS MY VERY 1ST BLOG SO JUST BEAR WITH ME. I WAS BORN WITH PKU AND EVEN THOUGH I WAS TOLD BY MY PARENTS AND THE DRS THAT I CAN STOP IT AND I WOULD NEVER HAVE TO GO ON THIS INSAINE TRAIN EVER AGAIN. STILL HERE I AM NOT A BABY,NOT A YOUNG GIRL,NOT A TEEN, BUT A 46 YEAR OLD WOMAN. YES FOR 33 YEARS NOW I HAVE BEEN EATING REAGULAR FOOD. NOW SO MANY YEARS LATER IAM VERY STRESSED OVER A FEW THINGS. WILL I BE ABLE TO SAY GOOD BYE TO THE LIFE I HAVE GROWN TO LOVE AND WILL I BE ABLE TO GO BACK TO THE SAME DIET I FOUND SO DISCUSTING FROM MIN1?

Good luck! It is difficult, but you will also find many low protein products that taste much better and are more convenient than they were ten years ago!

I agree with Sarah. The food is so much better now. You also have a lot of different choices when it comes to formula. There are several companies with different products.

I agree with everyone else. If you do decide to go back on diet it will be difficult, but it will be so worth it! Especially for your health. There are plenty of new low protein foods and formulas available that taste wonderful. Even if you aren’t 100% positive you want to go back on diet it might be a good idea to contact a clinic near you that treats PKU just to get your feet wet and get a little bit more information. Good luck!

Just go vegetarian… its not hard. Its only an issue if you treat it like one. Heck I usually forget I have PKU and follow the diet anyway. You can abide by it, but you don’t have to let it define you.
