MPKU – Motivation required

Hi everyone Been a bit off the radar for a while. Still doing MPKU pre-conception pretty well (last level was 100) but of course with Christmas and everything it's been really hard and the last few days have been a bit hopeless. I really want to conceive in my next fertile period (about mid-Jan) but I'm struggling with motivation at the moment. If you're a praying person could you think of me in your prayers. I really want to do it then. It would be a good time for it. Here's hoping the rest of the week will be a bit easier!

I’m sure you’re doing a great job with the diet. I would imagine the pre-conception diet is much more restrictive than our typical diets. Keep up the amazing work, and I hope you will be able to conceive next month!

Bannie you are in my prayers. I am fully confident you will get yourself back into the swing. We all tend to lose ourselves around the holidays (PKU or not). Hang in there and keep that confidence high. You’ve been doing great and will get back into the swing…. are you on break right now from work?!

Thanks guys! Yeah it is a lot more restrictive. There’s so much stuff I could eat/have more of if I was doing my normal PKU diet. But oh well! It’s only for a few months longer :P

Thanks katie. I am doing well today, despite formula supply issues (see my new post). I am on break from work yes. I go back on the 28th Jan. I was hoping to be pregnant during this time so that I had better access to formula, food etc at home. But I think I actually do better on the diet while at work than at home, so maybe it’s better that I’m not there yet. Hopefully will be by the time work starts. Provided my formula issues straighten out!

Jan 28th…. lucky!! We only have 2 weeks off here in the U.S. I actually find when I am at work (I also teach) I am following my diet WAY better. Hope formula issue gets resolved :) For now, enjoy yourself.

It’s because it’s summer holidays here. We get 6 weeks. Then 2 weeks in April, 2 in July and 2 in Sept/Oct. 12 weeks in all! :D

I agree with Katie (except in my case I did better when I was in school). In high school it definitely helped to have a routine: formula and a small breakfast in the morning, formula and lunch at the same time everyday, formula when I got home, then dinner. Now that I am in college my schedule is so different that there are times when I’m finding it’s eleven or twelve o’clock, and I haven’t had anything to eat yet because I simply don’t have the time. Keep up the great work, and I hope the formula issue gets worked out.

You will most definitely be in my prayers. I cannot imagine the added worry you must go through with MPKU, but know that when you hold that beautiful baby in your arms, it will have been well worth it! Good luck and drop an email if you have a craving and need a recipe adapted.

Keep up the good work Bannie. I know how hard it can be when you are on maternal diet. It is so restrictive but you are doing a great job!! Just stay focused on the end result of having a healthy baby. I also found it easier at work with my diet. I am so sorry to hear about your formula issues. that is a stress you can do without!! I remember the chemist ordered the wrong formula for me once so I had to wait for the right one to come in. It was so frustrating. Good luck for the middle of january and keep up all the hard work :)

Aw thanks everyone. Yes, it will be good. Hoping to start trying soon, though that depends on whether I get my formula or not. I’ve got emergency supplies until Monday but if they don’t have any after that I’m going to be very annoyed. Dietitian who gave me the emergency supplies said that NOBODY (meaning, none of the suppliers) in Perth has ANY type of formula (and there are lots of types) at the moment.

I would like to say keep up the good work MPKU is very hard but is so worth it at the end when you have a healthy baby in your arms. I have 2 children and am expecting my third child in June. Keep up the good work and I hope it happens for you soon.

Hi there MM! Thanks for your input. I really appreciate the encouragement. Right now the motivation is doing fine, it’s just the formula supply has dried up completely now. Just when I want to start TTC!

Hey Kate. It looks like we might be closer to starting together than you think. We’ve had a bit of a chat and decided to wait a couple of months. See my new blog.
