Needing help in Michigan?

September 21, 2010 in Uncategorized

I am a single mother of a 2 year old little girl and we live in Michigan. I work full time and still find it financially hard to afford food for her. We get food assistance every month throught the state. I just recently discovered a company (pku perspectives) that is working with me to get the right machines to make it possible to purchase food through them. I can use my food assistance that comes every month on the Michigan Bridge Card (like a debit card) to help pay for food for her. We dont get very much but a little helps. Hopefully this will open doors for PKU families. The company is still waiting on their debit machine but as soon as it arrives we will find out if this will work for sure.

First off – OMG, your daughter is GORGEOUS! I hope that everything works out for you. It is such a struggle for so many to afford the food and formula. This is why it is so important to work together to get the Medical Food Equity Act passed. A federal mandate would make it impossible for insurance companies to deny coverage of food and formula. If you go the National PKU Alliance’s website, there is more information on what you can do. In the meantime, though, that does not help your immediate needs. If you go on Cook for Love’s website, we provide delicious recipes for low protein foods that end up costing a fraction of what you normally pay. We are a non-profit and there are no fees. Working full time makes it hard to find the time to cook, but know that it is there. Best of Luck!

Its looking to me like it will be possible to use a bridge card. The company just has to have that special debit card machine to run your card. They r still waiting on it.

I found it not able to use the bridge card because the store had to swipe it.. But I have found a middle person who has the machine in their store that we have worked out a system that made it possible. I go to pku perspectives and order the food. They then contact the store and the store writes out a check and pay for the food. Its shipped right to the store then I go pick it up and pay them for the balance. I also pay the store a little more for the trouble but they r so amazing at working with me. It is the best option that I have came up with. It works out so well.
