pregnant with PKU

November 24, 2009 in Uncategorized

Hi, I am new to this website but wanted to take a minute and introduce myself... I am 29 years old, married. pregnant with twins and I have PKU. I figured I would start blogging on this website to obtain inspiration from others and also be an inspiration to others. Since I became pregnant I have been able to manage my levels well even though it was a very tough battle during the first trimester. I am currently 27 weeks and was just put on bed rest. Any tips or words of encouragement I can provide others or others can provide me are very much welcomed!!

First of all congrats on your pregnancy! My Mom is currently 27 weeks pregnant as well, so I know how exciting it must be :). I am sure you will be able to find others who are also pregnant, but if there is ever anything I can do to help let me know!

Pregnancy is such an exciting time, but when you are pregnant with PKU it can be an also scary time. congratulations on the twins. I also have PKU, and I have two beautiful kids. They are perfectly normal and so incredibly smart. I hope and pray that your twins will be healthy too. If your diet is under control then I am sure they will be healthy. This website is so awesome. I am new too, but I love it. It is hard to be the only one in my house with PKU, but I tell my kids that I would rather have it be me than them. I am so thankful that they can lead perfectly normal lives. I would never wish this disorder on anyone, and it is not fun at all. I try to keep my life in perspective, it could be so much worse. I could have cancer or live in constant pain. My life is good. Are you planning on breastfeeding the twins? I breastfed both of my kids, and it was such a bonding time. I would highly recommend it for you. I’d love to talk more!! I better go, I have a clinic appointment this afternoon. I hope I was an encouragement to you, I have been in your situation.
    Sincerely, Dana

Danathurm- This website does seem like a great place to connect with a whole world of people out there with PKU. I am just trying to figure it out and all and haven’t had time to be on it previously but now that i am on bed rest my time have been freed up. As for breastfeeding… yes I am planning on do it. I am a nurse that is very pro- breastfeeding for some time now and have studied and taught breastfeeding for years so I am eager to rep the benefits of it!
Katie-Yep, I FINALLY figured it out and have taken your advice to start blogging.
    BreaMarie-Thanks for the congrats!

Hi there! Congratulations :) I am aiming to become pregnant soon myself. Have been restricting my protein and having extra formula for a while now. Nearly have my levels ready and then we’ll be trying, lol. Twins is pretty cool! There is a lady with PKU in my city who has had twins. In fact they’re 9 now! I would love to hear more about your journey through your pregnancy.
