A New Beginning Yesterday I met with my new Nutritionist and had my first blood draw. I am going to do my best to do this diet right. I have been off the diet for a long, long, long time. It was nice to be at a Hospital that is within the company I work for too. I had to answer a lot of questions about my diet and history. That all makes sense. Results and Concerns... I received my results this morning. My Phe level is 14.7. You know, I had so many idea go through my mind yesterday. I was thinking, "what if the results show I did not have PKU after all?" Of course that is bunk. I could not have survived on this diet when I was a child without PKU. I think PKU has done a lot to mess with my mind over the years. I remember thinking I was going to die before I was 20 and thinking no one wanted to tell me. Well 20 came and went and I am still here. In another post I will talk about feeling isolated and how that messed with my mind. --But... like all PKUers (I kind of like that term), I survived and overcame. And off we go....

I am glad to hear the appointment went well for you yesterday. Your doctors will be of big help to get you back onto diet and eating the right things to make you feel better. I once had levels in the range of 14. I was eating the right low-pro foods, but not drinking formula. That is why my levels jumped so high. I still remember to this day how I felt at that period of my life. It was awful! Now that I am back on diet and have been for quite some time, I refuse to allow myself to ever go back to that miserable part of life. I have no doubt within two weeks of being on diet again, you will start to feel a tremendous difference in your over-well being.
